TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF
I am a second-year electrical engineering student at Cal Poly. I am a member of the Cal Poly Symphony. I am also a member of the sorority, Chi Omega.
WHAT IS YOUR EDUCATIONAL PLAN FOR THE FUTURE?
Currently, I am a second-year, Electrical Engineering (EE) student at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. After attending the Cal Poly career fair in my second quarter of college, I landed an interview for an internship, with an Electrical Engineering company located in Auburn. Once I made it to the second round of interviews I was offered the summer internship position. Over the past summer, I learned how to use CAD software to demonstrate Power Distribution and lighting for a wide variety of projects. A few months ago, when applying for an internship for the upcoming summer. I decided I wanted to broaden my experience with Electrical Engineering. Therefore, I applied for an internship with the Yuba County Water Agency, where I was offered the job and I accepted. Working for the Yuba County Water Agency will be useful for the future in various ways. After I graduate I want to live close to home and my family, which the Water Agency allows since it is located in Marysville. Also, I am planning to declare a concentration in Power, which I could use to incorporate Electrical Engineering into Agriculture, which is very big in Northern California. This internship will allow me more opportunities for my future and to pursue what I love.
Share a story about a family memory from time spent in La Porte.
To pick just one story about a family memory from time spent in La Porte would be impossible. La Porte is like a second home and it has shown me that my closest friends from here are more than just friends they are my family. I realized this during the last weekend of summer before I left for college, two years ago. It was Labor Day weekend and my parents were throwing me a going away party at the Lodge. I was beyond excited. When that friday of Labor Day weekend rolled around we drove up to the Cabin and went to the lodge to start decorating. Little did I know that the Mathews family had already begun. I walked in and there was a giant Cal Poly Mustangs flag on the wall, which they gave me to take to college. Before I knew it the lodge was packed with all of my favorite people. At that moment, I realized how much love I had for everyone there and how sad I was to leave my La Porte family. I decided I had to savor every moment. This meant having a dance party, where everyone busted out their best moves including my dance partners, Natalie and Elsie. We spent the rest of the night singing on the karaoke machine, nowhere near perfect pitch. Having one of the best nights ever. It was now Saturday morning and everyone was at the rummage sale. For those of you who don’t know, it is La Porte’s Annual Iconic Rummage Sale, not to be missed. Where every year I buy all the things I never need. After not winning the Polaris RZR, again, I spent the rest of the day with my family at the cabin and RZR riding one last time that summer. That night was the Labor Day dinner at the fire station, where I volunteered to serve dinner and hand out tickets. It is always so fun to give back to the La Porte community and chat it up with all the locals. After the raffle, we influenced DJ Calvin, one of my good friends, to set up his equipment at the lodge for round 2. Once again the lodge was packed with people. Calvin turned on his strobe lights and even more people were there partying all night. I went back and forth between night rides in the RZRs to the dance floor at the lodge. At about midnight, everyone decided to call it a night. After getting a somewhat late start to our “Sunday Funday” we loaded up the boats and went to the lake. I wake-surfed for the last time that summer and went tubing with my brother. Yet another successful day at the lake, I watched the sunset with my family as we headed to the boat ramp to begin our nightly festivities. We met up with everyone at the famous, Rileys Bar in town. We decided it would be a fantastic idea to go to someone's cabin for round 3. So, DJ Calvin brought his strobe lights to the Wolfgram’s cabin where all of us danced for hours. Once their floor was now morphed from all of us dancing and the adults spilling their drinks, I said my goodbyes to the friends I call family. That was by far one of my favorite weekends in La Porte. I have never felt more loved in a place at one time. I am forever grateful for the relationships and memories the La Porte community has given me.
